Narragansett United is a regional soccer club serving players from the Cumberland and York counties in south-western Maine. Our club offers teams and programming for players to train and compete on a premier as well as developmental level. Our coaching staff comes from an array of backgrounds including youth, high school and college level experience. All coaches are licensed by the United States Soccer Federation or certified by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
How we do it
Narragansett United sees player development as a succession of phases with each becoming more finite as the player’s role as an individual and member of a team becomes more distinct. Our objective is for players to train and compete within the parameters of a specific program. Training and competition is age appropriate with a particular focus on the player’s ability with a ball and their decision making.
April 2010 - Narragansett United Players Selected for 1996 Girls ODP
Five Narragansett United players from the U14 Girls premier team have been selected to participate in the Soccer Maine 1996 Girls ODP team for the 2010 tournament by head coach Seth Benjamin. The club and coaching staff wish to entend their congratulations to Rozada Spiers, Meghan Cushing, Abbie Laporte, Morgan Cushing and Olivia Curtis for this outstanding achievement.
This year's team were grouped with Virginia, New York East and West Virginia. Games were played at Mercer County Park in temperatures reaching the upper 80's and lower 90's. The team may have experienced mixed results over the course of the weekend but the players from NU will have continued to learn more about the game and themselves as individual players. The soccer intense environment has allowed our players to gain valuable coaching influence and provided them an oppotunity to compete against some of the better players in Region 1.
June 15, 2009 - Narragansett United Players selected for ODP
Four Narragansett United players from the U13 Girls premier team were selected for the Soccer Maine 1996 team that recently participated in the Region 1 Olympic Developmental Program Tournament held in Lawrenceville, NJ. The team was coached by University of New England men's assistant Seth Benjamin.
Rozada Spiers, Morgan Cushing, Abbie Laporte, Meghan Cushing were able to gain valuable experience training and competing with this team. They played in games at Mercer County Park against New York West B (1-1 T), Eastern Pennsylvania B (2-2 T) and Virginia A (8-0 L).
Each player related to their NU teammates how competitive the games were and how exciting it was to be involved in such a huge tournament such as this one. The playing experience and lessons learned these players brought back to their club team is immeasurable. Narragansett United wants to recognize these players for the extra effort and commitment these players have demonstrated by challenging themselves at a higher level.
Each year Soccer Maine holds tryouts in early November and holds training sessions for its teams during the winter months. In early spring scrimmages and continued training opportunities are arranged; all of which culminates at the Region 1 ODP Tournament in early June. The last event on the ODP Girls calendar is an Identification Camp held at the University of Rhode Island for 5 days in July where players from the 16 states that make up Region 1 are trained and potentially "identified" for inclusion on the team that represents all from the 1996 age group.
